Long Lake – NPT
This map shows the North County - Lake Placid Trail along the shores of the northern section of Long Lake, including the lean-tos and designated campsites along the shorelines.
Long Lake
The Long Lake located in the central Adirondacks of New York is a natural lake. Geologically speaking, it is not a standalone basin, but rather a 14-mile-long glacial widening of the Raquette River. It flows along a natural, northeast-trending fault line that was scoured and widened by the Laurentide Glacier approximately 14,800 years ago. Because it is essentially a highly enlarged, slow-moving section of the river, it remains relatively shallow despite being surrounded by high mountain peaks.
Buck Hill State Forest
Buck Hill State Forest is 1,698 acres near Pixley Falls in North-Central Oneida County, south of Boonville. Largely undeveloped, these hills provide access to forested backcountry.
